KU Cancer Center Tour de BBQ team forming, volunteers also needed

Cyclists interested in helping raise funds for cancer programs at The University of Kansas Cancer Center and Children’s Mercy are invited to take part in the tastiest bike ride in the Midwest: the Tour de BBQ.  This year’s ride is Saturday, Oct. 6, and will feature rest stops at some of Kansas City’s favorite BBQ restaurants, including Jack Stack, Gates, Johnny’s and Oklahoma Joe’s.

All University of Kansas Medical Center employees, and their friends and families, regardless of location, are invited to join The University of Kansas Cancer Center team. Go to www.tourdebbq.com. Click on the “Participate” link.  From there, scroll down until you see information on registering for a team and click on the link.  During the registration process, select “The University of Kansas Cancer Center” team when prompted.  Register before Sept. 6 and save 25 percent on your registration fee when you enter this code: 51TLY1U8TM

Now in its fourth year, Tour de BBQ is fast becoming one of the area’s most popular bike rides.  All skill levels are welcome and riders can choose from three distances: 15, 35 or 62 miles.

New this year is a $75 fundraising commitment per rider. Ideas on how to raise funds are available on the Tour de BBQ site. Riders also have the option of making a $75 donation at the time of registration with no additional fundraising required.

Not a cyclist? Not a problem. Sign up to volunteer. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs including stuffing packets, distributing packets at packet pick-ups, serving as course monitors and helping at rest stops. Though not required, volunteers can also help raise funds.
